Parting is such a sweet sorrow. Amanda Righetti and Owain Yeoman, two of the original cast members from the CBS series The Mentalist, are reportedly on their way out this fall after six seasons on the show.
According to TVLine, the are-they, aren’t-they couple are poised to leave toward the end of season 6 (the show returns to the air on Sept. 29). Series creator Bruno Heller will “neither confirm or deny” the reports, however, telling the site instead that this will be the “most dramatic and game changing season and anything can happen.”
Righetti and Yeoman play colleagues Grace Van Pelt and Wayne Rigsby on the procedural, which also stars Simon Baker and Robin Tunney.
In May, Heller revealed to Entertainment Weekly that the pair’s hot-and-cold relationship would increasingly come to the forefront of the show’s storyline.

“They’ve always been in love with each other,” he explained. “As we get closer to Red John [the murderer whom the team is hunting], all of the team members will start thinking about their major life decisions. That applies to both Lisbon [Robin Tunney’s character] and Grace. They haven’t been able to look to their own feelings. As the show rolls on, those feelings will come to the fore.”
And, as TVLine is also reporting, two new characters — one male and one female — will join the cast toward the beginning of next year, presumably to take Righetti and Yeoman’s places.
